Just received this email from John Rose:

Sorry to say that due to yesterday’s news the Nostalgia Day has been postponed. Shame you had a wasted journey, no reason why you can’t fly as far as I know unless National Trust decide otherwise.
Best regards
John
Disappointed, but you have to respect the ISA's decision.

Phil

What a shame. I've never understood why activities must be suspended following the death of some famous person. Some kind of tribute like a minute's silence, or similar, ought to be sufficient.

In this case I ask, "What connection did Her Majesty, or indeed any of the royals, have with slope soaring?" And, "If we'd asked her while she was alive, do you think she would have wanted people to stop doing the things they enjoy, following her death?"

Anyway, I hope that those who travel there are still able to have an enjoyable day's flying, even if it's no longer an officially sanctioned event.

My pitch is just below the Beacon and on Saturday morning I could see quite a few flyers up on the slope, so we all ventured up to see what was happening, having been told it was 'off'... apparently even a few local ISA members didnt know so were flying anyway. It was a calm day with frequent busts of maybe 10mph max but almost still between.
Here are a few pics:

Excellent fun. Pity about the event being cancelled, but still had a great few days.Banter, decent coffee, cakes and Ice-cream in the beacon carpark and a cracking curry at Mike's.
Phil and I got an hour or two in today before I came back to the land of proper slopes where men are men, our hills make Everest look like a pimple and calm is a 25mph wind.

Oops just in case "men are men" is now deemed offensive or unacceptable please accept my apologies and substitute "where life forms are life forms"😄😄

A lovely days flying, despite the nostalgia day being cancelled. Luckily quite a few other fliers hadn't got the message and there were 12 of us in total including a professional magician who was doing coin and card tricks with passing walkers in-between flights, most bizarre!

The lift was very variable, one minute you were heading to the heaven's, the next you were dropping out of the sky, but lift was never strong enough for things like Phase 6. I didn't take as many picture as Phil, but here are the few I took.
