Bimbo (the ugly duckling)

Post by Stew »

Some shots of a Vic Smeed Bimbo I made in 2014-ish. Derided by many as pig ugly, I took pity on the poor little things and I think it has a certain angular charm. Such an easy build. It's gone now but I will be making a second example soon. It needed a fair bit of lead in the front. The one other example I've seen had the U/C much further forward than this,

Not far off true scale though, have a look at the "LegalEagle" ultralight

This is my (yet to materialize) rendition, also not quite true scale :D

I can see what you mean. Functional, and purposeful. No fripperies.
I am building another, and my intention is to photograph two in the same place. I know of one other, and I've seen it at both Old Warden and Ponty. It's black with green wings. I think the wing may be off another model too. Can't remember the chap's name who built it.

Ah, yes. That's the one. That's at least two of us that have built one, apart from Vic himself of course.
