TV Remote tester

Post by RON »

Here is a quick infrared remote tester I knocked up from an Arduino and a Ir receiver led.
Perfect for my line of work and so simple to build, around 10 mins start to finish.
Brilliant these Arduino's eh.
If anyone wants the circuit, just shout.

I'm puzzled by what to me looks like a C & K pushbutton, but what must be the IR sensor.
What am I looking at?
Is it one like in my Little Black Box?

Your not far off Bruno.

I drilled a hole for the ir led but needed some sort of bezel.
After searching through my hardware box I came across a dress nut, so I used that. The red cap is to reduce the range of the sensor, even though its opaque it still has a range of 20 feet!

If you don't have one of Ron's testers, a lot of phone cameras can 'see' infra red. Put your phone in camera mode so you can see a live picture on the phone screen - then point the remote at the camera (doesn't need to be very close) and you'll maybe see the sender light up when a button on the remote is pressed.

I think some high-end phones have an infra-red blocking filter on their cameras, so they don't work.

It works on my phone, and I when I get problems with remotes, I use the phone to test them to see if the problem is likely with the remote itself or the receiver in the TV / HiFi / whatever.
