Tobe's Lockdown Project

Post by Tobe »

If it ain't on it doesn't exist.

Here is my Lockdown Project and one less item on my bucket list.
What you can see on the short video is my new stick all 3D printed. It works fine and do the work. There are no mechanical trims thus leave the option for electric trims for which I have also made and attach directly to the main frame of the stick with the option to have 3 "trim wheels". When installing the trims a different front plate need to be used in accordance with how many are desired.
It's still a work in project but in essential it has the final lay out/construction and it's on its way to be mounted in a proper box.
The components are designed so they can be printed in most printers if a little attention is given and if there's interest I will set up the proper files to those of you that might give it a shot. Here I'm using regular pots but with a little modification other style might be used
Cheers

Hi Tobe

That is looking really good.

If you wanted to add trims, the commercial joystick below may give you an idea of how separate linear pots could be used (I think it's an SLM?)

And the linear pots are available from a number of sources

https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/ ... f8QAvD_BwE

I can see that you could now build a complete DIY radio system, with 3D printed joysticks, Phil's lock-down project for the 2.4GHz and your 3D printed Rand GG actuators. Put it in a self-designed model, like your Quickie Ghost and you have nearly built it all. In fact, if you could make a small diesel on your lathe, you would have what for some would be the "holy grail", a self-designed model and radio gear and a self-built engine. Has anybody done this yet?

Cheers

That's one of my options in my quest but I also have a few trim pots from Kraft which I like to use first as they are "free"
I made a 4 stroke once but a self made brushless could also make the trick I suppose...in the early day it was not to uncommon

....the little grey cells are on free fall!
Here is a single channel stick with regular "mechanical " trim and almost there but keeping in mind that when you reached 95% completion you still have 50% left
Need to get my lathe up and running so I can make proper control sticks.

Heres one for you Tobe. A printed tx case with the sticks printed in situ. From memory the toilet seat Gem propo sets used a set up like this. Mike can you check with your Gem set ?

Just like the Space Commander plastic Tx cases back in the late 70's. The more things change, the more they stay the same........ :P :P

[not quite so tongue in cheek  ]
