24 swg twisted servo leads?

Does anyone have a source of 24swg twisted servo leads?

I have used 22swg but they are bit thick and "clunky" for transmitter conversions. I have tried 26 swg and those are a bit thin and fiddly but I just can't find any 24 swg twisted leads with JR plugs.......???

Hi Paul

If you don't mind making your own servo leads, including twisting the wires, HK sell 1m lengths of 24AWG silicone wire in various colours. I bought some black and red to make up some "red JST" leads.

It outside diameter is at least as thick as most 22AWG servo lead wire, but it is more flexible.

I think I have some left over somewhere that I don't need as I've found a supplier of ready made "red JST" leads with silicone wire. If you'd like I'll post it up to you to see if it would suit. If it looks OK but you haven't got a crimp tool for servo leads, I'll happily make you up some servo leads with this wire if you let us know the lengths you need.

Mike,

Thanks for your response and kind offer......... However, after I posted my question, I had an idea
I had some flat servo connectors which looked like 24swg so I split one into three separate wires, put the loose ends in a hand drill and twisted it.....

Problem solved! :P

Yes, great idea and now we all know where to get some from ;)

Paul,

I've made twisted leads this way for a long time - one suggestion though, while the wires are still twisted & under slight tension in the drill give the twisted length a gentle once over with the heat gun. This removes any "memory" the insulation may have & encourages the bundle to stay twisted permanently 8-) .

Wayne, thanks for that, it sounds like a good suggestion :). You can see in the pic above that it had slightly unwound itself so I will give it a squirt with the heat gun and see what happens.......

Been there, done that but not with silicon wire. The heat treatment works well on 'plastic' insulation. Does silicon wire behave in the same way ?

Works okay if the three individual wires are disconnected at one end so they can each twist on their own axis. In fact if you twist all three the same way individually before putting them back together, then the resulting 3-wire cable automatically twists itself together in the opposite direction.

More Nostalgia with that procedure, Martin ! About 60 years ago I made a rope-laying machine from Meccano to do just that with small cordage. :)
