Mode Zero

One of my favourite engines when I was a nipper was the HB40 PDP. I was given it by an older modeller and I never dared fly it. It was far too big for my control line models. I just had it mounted on a saw horse, and it used to pull the thing across the yard. Lovely sound too.
I'd love to find another one. I'd never heard of HB before that. Anyone know anything about them?

Ah, great stuff. Thanks for that. I wish I still had the motor, but I will keep my eye out for another.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but just joined this group.

I have an HB61 PDP in my Dactyl. A very powerful motor. Was setting up for a noise test (a requirement at my club). Went to pick the model up and forgot how close the prop is to the wing and chopped my little finger badly on tickover luckily!!. That was last July and it has healed beautifully though it is still a bit sensitive at the tip.

Have now fitted a bracket to the fus to allow lifting the model without getting near the prop. Still not flown the Dactyl yet.

Just completed my first 2.4 conversion of a Mcgregor MR200 Tx. Now looking for a suitable s/c model.

The Dactyl is one of my "wish I'd never sold it " models. Powered by a Merco 61 with the pilots head connected to the steerable nose wheel servo so it would swivel. Cracking model and reasonably aerobatic.

John, never apologise for resurrecting old threads, it's great to hear new stories.

If you want a couple of suggestions for s/c models both quick & cheap to build; for a slow and steady plane try a 40" wingspan Simplex (D Tennant version - Aeromodeller June 1984, available on Outerzone) or to get the heart rate up a tad you can't go wrong with a Sharkface.

looked on outerzone but not too many s/c models at first glance. I' sure when I last looked you could download plans and tile the sheets together to get the fullsize plan but that option didn't appear to available over ythe weekend. will dig deeper later on.

I recently finished and have been flying the Mini Robot and would recommend it highly as a great model to get back into button pushing..... Really easy to fly with no bad habits but responsive enough to be good fun. Also, Belair have started doing a kit for it.........
