Looking for large S/C plans similar to Big Guff

Post by Stephen D »

Good day,
I have 3 single channel tube radios restored and I am (probably crazy) and looking for a suitable model to test them in. They are babcock radios with 4 tubes, steel chassis, and a lot of batteries (around a pound of batteries for the “A”, “B”, and “C”!…. The plan is to install modern 2.4 equipment also which has a negligible weight compared to the tube equipment.

I am looking for airframe plans, single channel, suitable for tube radios similar to the “big guff” that might be easier to build. I am looking for names of large single channel aircraft that might be suitable? One option would be to increase the size of a smaller model, design a test mule with similar incidence to the guff.

Take a look at Outerzone. https://outerzone.co.uk/

14k+ plans and playing around with the Advanced feature (upper right) should help narrowing down your choices. Something like the Rudder Bug or the Smog Hog might work, or the original Telemaster if you like the newer (1960s) designs.

Or, review the foam board plans from FliteTest. https://store.flitetest.com. Light, cheap, expendable and easy to scale up and down. The Old Fogey is an option, doubled to 75" span would be interesting. https://store.flitetest.com/ft-old-fogey-mkr2/

Keep us posted.

Simplex by Paul Plecan or Junior 60.

Easy to scale up if required, fly themselves, quick to build.

Plans on outerzone.

Been on outer zone for a couple of days looking on and off…a foamboard plane was actually on the radar or maybe something like the “swizzle stick” type design with incidence comparable to a single channel design…. Thanks for some names of s/c planes I can look for!
