Hermes brought the Ariel just a few minutes ago, thank you again Mike
I connected it up and 50 years on, it still works, not perfectly, but it works!
I learned something new too.
As an example, the RCS Inter-6 is not a bi-simul set, which means you couldn't operate rudder AND elevator at the same time - the toggles switch different tone-determining resistors into a common tone-generator. This was the norm for a sport radio, and obviously this means you cant do rudder/elevator spins, correct for skew halfway round a loop, or steer whilst inverted!
Only the posh Reed sets were bi-simultaneous with two tone generators, where any of the left-hand toggles could be operated at the same time as any on the right.
Well, as you can hear on the video, the Ariel
is bi-simul. I never realised that at the time.
The unmodulated carrier is very noisy however, it wouldnt be flyable as it is.
For Frank, the dimensions are 180mm x118mm and 60mm deep.
The rear has a pattern of raised things like dimples but outwards, that I dont know the word for - so I'm going to call then undimples
They project a couple of mm. The rounded corners are about 10mm radius.
Here's the brass band joining the two halves, this is laid flat in the bench supported by the undimples
Cheers & thanks again Mike
