...of course I had to make a matching Rx! A regular NRF24+ module just mates on top. SIze 35x20.
As I fly most small models this configuration is perfect for me....if it works as intended I will have a few available and they use Phil's nRF sketch.
I did also a full design but the nRF2401 chips are rest ordered KiCad has the footprint for a suitable PCB antenna and the rest should be just to copy from the spec sheets. The design below was intended for a Brick with my DIY ProPo servos... Most headers will not be there except those to mate the DRV8835 and 2x3 for channel 3 & 4

...next will be going flying and get some balsa dust done.
This will complete my winter project and in some way my lock-down projects and hopefully we will get some higher temperatures.
Initially it was more a "stick" project but I got the bug for a full DIY R/C set which has become possible thank-you the help and prior work of Mike and Phil which is the soul of this DIY project.
I'm going to publish all the files as soon all have properly been tested including "KiCad" files.
Been familiarized with KiCad and JLCPCB will undoubtedly help me professionally to widen up my horizons and be more multidisciplin.

On the receiver side, it is advisable to make the Tantalum cap on the output side of the LDO very large.

Most commercial receivers use something like 100uF.
This is done to prevent brown-outs and resets when the on-board power supply gets iffy, e.g. when multiple servos draw a lot of currents and some connectors are not making perfect contact.
I had this happen on RC cars in my early designs, and it gets annoying quickly. Since I put in 47uF or larger no more issues with spur resets.

Another issue was the pin header to the nRF module. I had issues due to vibration (module fell out as car went over bumps). Nowadays I only solder the nRF module onto boards.

Regarding LDO: I have good experiences with Microne ME6209 (available at LCSC and JLCPCB). Unlike the ancient 1117 it has a low drop-out voltage, so even 1S operation is possible (assuming your MCU runs at 3.3V). It can handle up to 18V on the input (of course power dissipation is the limit). It is happy to supply an nRF24 + PA module without issues. It has no issues with capacitive loads and is fully MLCC compatible. And it is very cheap.

At last they are up and running ☺
If the wind dies down tomorrow it's flying time with this new DIY R/C set, both in a 4 as 6 channels set up....I know that the "branding " is missing but I don't think it will have impact!
Eventually I will have all the boards available, both Rx & Tx.
They are based on Phil's lockdown project with some mods and updates
