My first radio was the Sanwa 'Mini' which I got for Christmas in 1976. A few years ago I got an example and decided to convert it to 2.4ghz for 'nostalgia' reasons.
Converted TX - it is now 4 channel (added toggle switch and pot on top):
Internals - uses a Futaba encoder from an 'Attack 4' (conversion predates availability of Phil's encoder), and a Frsky module:
I seem to remember that this conversion was a bit of a PITA because the pots weren't compatible with the Futaba encoder (perhaps log instead of linear?), and finding replacements was difficult due to their size and long shafts.
Also replaced the simple 2 LED battery indicator with 2 bi-colour LEDs to display 4 levels of battery charge, and added aluminium stick ends.
