Good grief AL,
That is amazing. That TX is in such good condition.
And that box, I had completely forgotten about that box and those labels.
I am going to save those photos in my TX folder.
Thanks so much AL. You do not know how much this means to me.
Did you buy it from new or obtain it second hand?
Cheers,
KK

And another new unused one in the UK. Pity the box didn't fare as well as the tx/Rx. If anybody can send me a scan of the instructions (for completeness) I would appreciate it.

Cheers,

Shaun

TX 18W.jpg
While we are on the subject of transmitters here is one produced quite a few years after the XPT800 which was produced probably somewhere around 1965. The TX illustrated is an 18W Mark 22 8 channel produced in the early 2,000s.
It was a prototype for a range of transmitters we produced for Continental RPV an American RPV company located in Barstock USA.
Continental had a huge range of RPVs and they were tasked with training various US military personnel including the US Marines.
Their RPVs were quite large and were flown at long ranges through binoculars hence the need for high power transmitters.
The TX shown used to warm the aluminiun case after it was in use for an extended period. The case was in actual fact the heatsink for the output transistors.
The large socket on the side was for an external battery pack and the switch below the Aileron stick was the internal/external battery change over switch.
The antenna was tuned to 25MHz and could be removed and connected to a coax cable for a larger antenna for increased range.
We made those for many years in a variety of powers.
Cheers,
KK

I don't have instructions Shaun sorry.

Bob.
Long story short, An older gent came to the club wanting to get back into flying after a long break.
I helped him set up & trim a foam trainer he had bought & did some buddy box with him. Unfortunately his eyes weren't up to it anymore.
He wanted to sell on his new gear & i bought it with the aim to give it to a friend for his son.
When I arrived to collect he showed me his collection of old gear & I made him an offer. It was pure luck I came across it.

Hi Shaun,
I just went through all of my old instruction sheets but sadly the XPT800 sheet slipped through the net.
I would be interested in a copy for my files if possible.

KK

Thanks AL,
An interesting story. That old fellow certainly looked after his gear.

Here is another shot of Continental RPV transmitters. This was an earlier batch with a 5W output.
I gradually pushed the output power up over a period and they accepted anything I could get in the way of increased power.
The aircraft is Zina Kaye's Observatine, an observation RPV we designed for Zina's project.
Our pet name for old Observatine was the Flintstone Flyer. It was not the prettiest aircraft we produced, however it flew very well.
From memory it ended its life in the Sydney Powerhouse Museum.
On the floor is my personal Weightlifter.

KK

Oops, I am not sure what happened in the previous post.
Is there any way to edit a post once it is posted in this forum.
I have not come across an edit feature yet.

Hi Shaun,
You blokes are flooring me.
I thought that I had a good memory but you lot are proving me wrong, wrong, wrong!
Shaun, I had forgotten about the silver XPT800. My one is gold.
I am madly trawling through my mind trying to go back to the 1960s and it is heavy going believe me.
Keep it up lads and I might recover some more really old stuff.
Well done all.
Cheers,
KK

Hi Shaun, AL,

I forgot to ask you blokes the two most important questions;

(1) Do your XPT800 transmitters still work?

(2) Do you still use them?

Very important questions in my mind.

Cheers,

KK
