Kavan Pixie for S/C slope soaring?

Post by Phil_G »

Slightly smaller and chunkier than the Lidl glider, this £10 foam chuck-glider is ideal for a lightweight radio conversion.
Unflown as yet (maybe tomorrow) but I'm hoping it will make a good S/C glider to encourage others to have a try at rudder-only slope soaring, which is brilliant fun :-)

Sorry no video but witnessed by the Baildon mob, flies great as a S/C glider :D Tried the 'level flight' tailplane setting but it has no pitch stability so I used the 'loopy' tail setting and 20gm noseweight.
Far too windy for it so flying backwards most of the time but in between a good few short flights of a few minutes or so before the wind got the better of it every time. A tenner well spent, recommended! Radio is (appropriately) the OS Pixie. with an Rf Nano for the rx running directly from a 350mAh vape cell, total airborne cost of model, radio & battery about £14. Rudder-only of course. Hopefully will get some video next time, wind permitting :D

We had a great turnout today with 9 models all in the air together, couple of light mid-airs but no damage so a great time was had by all. Fish & Chips also up to their usual standard of excellence :D

I'm still here having a brew as I type this, the others left about 6 ish. Lovely evening!
Cheers
Phil
