Hobie Hawk with Original Kraft using Phil G encoder

Post by jmendoza »

Here I am at the 9th annual 2019 Katie Martin International Tribute held at Torrey Pines Gliderport, La Jolla California. The radio is a Kraft with an airborne brick, which came in the RTF version of the Hobie Hawk.
The Hawk itself was one of Hobie's own personal planes that was one of the original pre-production batch of around 50 planes. Hobie painted it his favorite color: Keoke Coffee, as he used on some of the Hobie 16 Catamarans. The Kraft has a Phil G 7 channel encoder, Orange RX DSM2/DSMX module, the brick has Hitec servos inside it and the AR6210 receiver with satellite is under the wing in the fuselage 1400 2s LiFe battery.
This plane had not been flown in over 45 years, and I have had it sitting around for at least 25 years before restoring the radio and re-covering it earlier this spring. Phil, people really enjoyed seeing it flown with the original radio, made possible by you.

Hawk and radio look great !!

Do I spy an Apache sloper there too - with baseball bat fuselage

Hope you didn't get the wing dihedral bent on the hawk when covering it :D :D
