Hello Edward, maybe I can pop into this topic. I built a Tomboy some 10 years ago, intended for R/C from the beginning. She is a sweet little flyer.
I did power mine a bit more relaxed than Phil I think, I am using a Turnigy 2205/34 1500 KV with a 7 x 4.5 APC prop. As the motor is quite light, I installed the motor mount about 18 mm ahead of the original firewall, leaving a small slot ahead of the windshield just big enough to slip in a 2s 500mAh battery in. The motor is installed without any side trust, and only some 2 degrees down related to the mounting face of the stabilizer. The ESC is in the main compartment together with the receiver.
Necessary or not, I did strengthen the fuselage a bit by fitting diagonals in all bays of the sides. The first bay aft of the firewall is planked completely with 1.5 mm balsa.
I believe the chord of the stabilizer is a bit larger than the original, 112 mm with the last 20 mm hinged as elevators.
Happy building & flying, cheers,
Max.

Re: Far East Sharkface for S/C first timer
Hi Max, mine remember is the 'Tomboy Senior' 48" span so the Blue Wonder is quite gentle. As you know these vintage models dont need much power and most of the flight is at half throttle
Edward, theres a hatch underneath just in front of the undercarriage legs, a 3S 1000mAH just lots in nicely. I would guess a 2S 500 or 800 mAH would suit the original 36" Tomboy quite nicely

Hi Max
Very nicely built Tom Boy,
For my enlarged Quaker Flash model, I did all the modification as mentioned by you. It prove to be very strong despite of some force landing during windy session
Phil
Thank you, I will build a battery hatch at the bottom of the cable area.
