Quite a bit done today including putting some wheels on
Adding a metal strake to the tail skid. Fitting the radio and making the cables tidy with my wire loop method to attach to the fuselage interior

Hi Wayne yeah I’m pleased with the scheme been a bit of a mare to mask off and still a bit of overspray to disguise but yes retro is cool 😎 The linkages protruding from the backend of the fuselage so I discover a some peculiar size. Neither M2 or M3.

I discovered this as my Amazon delivery of M3 snap links were just too big! So I’ve soldered the little bastards on. I have still got to put the side glazing on and I’ve got the frames ready and painted and prepared. Those frames take some making as they are cut by hand out of 1.5 mm ply.

The front screen I made up a cardboard template first and then kept tweaking it.

The front edge of the screen is not glued deliberately as it looks So much better without glue. Not only that of use the same fixing technique for the front ‘bonnet’ as I did on the black magic. Namely the windscreen holds the backend of the bonnet down and the front and are located with pegs.

The other job I have to do is convert the OS Cougar 235 MHz (currently charging)

Ok I think I dare say the build and decorate process is finished.... Yay!

Now the commissioning. Adding lead to the nose and checking for balance.

Does anyone know where I can get laser cut lettering? Only my home made stencil 'Keil Kraft' is rather tricky and I suspect wont work.

Have shrunked the photos so hopefully I have got it right hey Mike?

Is it just the way the photos are taken or has the house interior taken on a red overspray tinge........

Ahem .... well i did discover the living room floor had a definite red sunset effect near the sofa ! Fortunately i spotted it in the morning and it cleaned off with the aid of a bulldozer

Well this evening has involved pyrotechnics in the kitchen . This time without petrol. But with a blow torch!

Final stage of commissioning and just a few little jobs left. The lovely alloy and rubber vintage wheels which came with it turned out to be heavier than the plastic ones. That and a big strip of lead were just enough to get a slight nose down attitude as requested in the distructions.

So with a pint on the go I have set about melting the lead down to form an ingot. THis is my method of consolidating all the bits of lead into one nice lump that can have the flashing cleaned off it and a large dollop of Araldite applied to one face to fix it position.

The lead ingot popped into the poke hole under the bonnet and with the dollop of Araldite on its lower face i was able to slide it around to a satisfactory spot as far forward as possible but without interfering with the motor. Its tipped up on the table so the bit that the ingot is laying on is about level stopping the ingot sliding off position.

So whats left .... more beer I reckon this eve bit then :

Shorten the axles (they stick out too far) - wheels fixed with a spot of thread lock on the grub screws
apply a 'Keil Kraft' sticker to the wing hiding the bit of overspray i couldn't get off.

The OS is ready to go on 35Mhz but the initial flights will be under one of my JR transmitters.

I just love Araldite !

Wow, that's one chunka-lead.
Think I'd secure it with a hole and cable tie or similar.
If it came adrift from the araldite, would be disasterous.
Don't hear much about araldite these days..... 8-)

Are the baked beans intended to provide that authentic 4-stroke popping sound to obscure the leccy motor whine??

I concur with Jeff - that sure is a lump & a half of lead. I'd hate to see it come adrift or plummet earthwards
Cheers,

Wayne

I melt my lead ballast out in the garden on a camping stove, because I'm afraid of the fumes. Probably illogical of me, because I also do loads of soldering with lead-based solder indoors. :?
