Wasn't there a cardboard trainer made in the 1980s? I think it was called the Stanley Apprentice Trainer and was about 60-inch span and 40-powered (as in 6.5cc). There were a couple at our club and they flew no differently than any other trainer of the period. I think they cheated a bit and had a bit of wood in their construction, such as a ply firewall, undercarriage mount and balsa spars. And you Solafilm covered them, they weren't left bare, but with glow exhaust, they wouldn't have lasted long without. Does anybody else remember them?

There sure was, dad and I built a couple and actually didn't flew to bad also if they were on the heavy side. The maine frame was still in balsa so the cardboard was used a sheeting mainly. After completion we just gave a coat of fuel proofing/polyurethane, if I remember right they were .40 size
