Does anybody know where I can get a folded Ali box around 8" x 8" x 3" (preferably in the UK) . It's to make a replica transmitter in.
Cheers
Shaun.

Related to folding aluminum boxes my question:
How do you get this shiny brushed effect on the aluminum like in the photo?

Re: Folded Aluminium Boxes
I've achieved it in the past by rubbing the surface with fine wire wool to Matt it down and give it the texture then spraying with clear polyurethane varnish.

May be an optical illusion, but there seem to be vertical lines not unlike the pattern you sometimes see in machined aluminum parts. Do they come foreward when you treat the aluminum with wire wool is that what you're saying Shaun?

I restored a single channel case from Controlair. Yes I rubbed the wire wool vertically to "stripe it" then used polyurethane varnish. It looked very similar. Not identical but I was happy with the finish. Before varnishing I applied vinyl decals first. I don't however have the set anymore to show you.

Will try your method. See if I can achieve a similar result.

Hi,
Never seen a GG Mule myself , but allways thought it was a "CIRCULAR OVERLAPPED ROUND" pattern, like the cowls of some biplanes , and not a "LONGITUDINAL STRIPE" pattern
this web I googled show both and another one
