Stew, you can easily work out the distance under each wing tip using the "1 in 60 rule"....... 1 degree = 1 unit in 60 units and for angles up to about 10 degrees, that is quite close enough. So if the panel is 14" long, divide it by 60 and multiply by 10 and that will be the distance under each tip.... 1/6 x 14 = 2.3" (near enough).

Paul, after the ATPL exams, hell, PPL even!! how on
earth did I forget the 1 in 60 rule? I used to teach students that when learning to navigate. Good lord.

Definitely not my intended outcome Stew, so apologies
The manner of Ron's post re his colour suggestion implied to me that he likes using it, so consequently he would be most likely to have plenty of it "in stock".
I'm still looking forward to seeing pictures of your completed models

No apologies needed! I just have real trouble deciphering peoples intentions, face expressions, and so on, and tend not to get most humour, jokes and other things. My eldest son is the same, except he gets more help than I do as our condition is more understood in younger people (He's 10).
I get by but it's a running joke at work to say something in jest to Stew and watch him take it seriously!
But then I'm the boss and I get my own back
Onwards and upwards, or in today's case, grounded and in the workshop!

I met an accomplice yesterday, and he has found a source of cheap silk! I will test it, and if it's any good I'll let you all know. He uses it over modelspan and makes for a very light but tough covering. Apparently good on it's own too.
I'm always seeking alternatives in case Esaki tissue becomes unobtanium. I understand there's a problem getting stocks of liteflite as the company has (temp?) halted production?
I am always on the lookout for alternatives to balsa, tissue, dope, glue, etc. I use the trad stuff If I can, but I think it will go the way of the dinosaur before I do
