I was "gutted" to miss this years Ponty had been really looking forward to my first visit. But domestic health issues and then first opportunity to see daughter and grandchildren in 18 months intervened so roll on next year!

I didn't have anything ready to fly, but intended to bring and show a couple of kits that even Shaun might not have seen in the flesh?.
First a very early Jim walker (one of the originators of control line) kit circa 1944 simple CL, no motor needed just a fishing rod! Secondly what I believe to be the first commercially available FF electric kit. I had one originally in 1962/3.

I will take some photo's and post in the appropriate slot.

Roger, I'll guess the first e-powered kit you have is by Graupner, called the Silentius and designed by Fred Militky from 1960.
In 1962 a Japanese instrument manufacturer started selling an epowered model with a foam fuselage but I can't remember it's name..

I seem to remember the Silentius used a couple of 2 volt mini accumulators to power it.

You are right, I've never seen one in the flesh..

Shaun.

Hi Shaun
It's the "wee foamy one" I'm afraid, no way I could afford the Silentius on my RAF apprentice wages. It used a one shot battery, Silver chloride I think, that you had to prep by injecting a common salt solution for one time use. I'll photo it and the Jim Walker kit and post on the appropriate forums, might be a couple of days.
Cheers

I still have a few of the batteries you mention some where in the museum collection. I absolutely certain they wouldn't work today. :D

If you fancy a Silentius the plans are on Outerzone. Many have been successfully converted to RC.

Hi Shaun
Thanks for the heads up on the Silentius, however at the moment I need to live to 140 to do all the projects on my to do list but suppose one more won't hurt!

The Sanwa electra kit I have came with a number of the salt cell batteries.I'm tempted to try one and see if I can get a discharge curve.
Cheers

Hi all,
Due to muppetry on my part I had an uncharged camera and no spare battery at Ponte so I'm a little light on photos. If anybody can help out there's a good chance you will have fame and fortune in my next column in RCM&E. Well maybe fame but definitely no fortune. :D :D

Cheers,

Shaun

There is a batch of good Ponty 2021 pictures with a short report by 'Twitcher' in the latest issue [171] of Sticks & Tissue.

2 Ponte reviews this month in the latest RCM&E and Aeromodeller. Then Alex W's in a month or two.

We are definitely on the radar now thanks to everyone who can attend.

Next year let's try and hit 150 modellers.👍
