Vintage docs from USA

Post by Ken Binks »

Hi, I was recommended to this site by ‘KraftyPete’ of eBay.
It’s full of vintage documents, instructions and adverts of the radio systems available in the USA. Some of it found its way to the U.K.
considering the cost of F&M Matador Reed systems the brochure and instructions were typed! Not a printed manual.

Check out the Bonner docs and advert for ‘transmite’ servos
Also check out the picture pages. Many many radio systems not seen in U.K.

Another site you'll probably like, with lots of RC history, is: http://www.rchalloffame.org/index.html

Absolutely fascinating site, telling the stories behind most of the famous brand names!

We could do with the UK equivalent of the US RC Hall of Fame, but with sets that were available in the UK and not so USA centred. We'd have to use photos from a combination of our collections unless somebody has a collection like that without us knowing?

Between us, I'm certain we could cover most British manufacturers from the '40s to the '70s and many of the USA, Japanese and German sets as well. I could even add some Swiss, Australian and Russian sets, though I don't think they were available in the UK.

We just need someone to tell the stories of the British manufacturers before we're all too old to remember! Any volunteers Pete?

Cheers Mike

Whilst I do know some background to some of the sets manufactured from the 70s onward, my knowledge is not nearly as extensive as you might imagine! Much of it is apochryphal, and some of it downright libelous! ;)

I am aware of one or two tales that I know to be true, but I'm not sure I would want to repeat them outside a small circle of friends!
