Paint for field box?

Post by Stew »

Hi all.
Any suggestions for priming and painting a plywood field box? It needs to be glow and diesel proof, which I guess will make it waterproof too.

What did you use?

Good question Stew, any nitro in the fuel?

I have always been on the lazy and lousy side so I have taken polyester resin, top coat so it not remains sticky and just brush it as thin as possible...it will stand almost everything and cures in no time! Outdoor and the brush is a write off...

Hi Tobe.

10% Nitro currently. Do you have a brand name for the resin you used? I had hoped the manufacturer of my flight box kit would have given advice on paint finish, but nothing given.

Many thanks

Polyester resin is so common that it comes in all shapes and brand, any hardware store carry it for glass fiber repairs and it's normally cheap, just ask and you will get.
Just be sure to get a top version so it's not sticky afterwards.
