Re: VHS - you know it makes sense
I was always a Betamax person myself! Still got my original Betamax, and it still works!
I used to work in broadcast TV as an engineer/videotape editor. When ENG (Electronic NewsGathering) started to replace film, broadcasters standardised on Betacam, a very much upgraded Betamax system. In the UK, we used Beta SP, which used chromium dioxide tapes, but many foreign broadcasters just used the standard (and lower resolution) ferric oxide tapes. After use, we used to junk ferric oxide tapes, which by coincidence, worked absolutely perfectly in a Betamax!
I therefore had an inexhaustable supply of tapes!
The chrome tapes would also work in a Betamax, but you couldn't erase them in one. They were also ore abrasive and wore the heads quicker, so I avoided those!
Happy days!
