As far as I can make out, right in the first paragraph, (A1) registration etc. only applies to those who are not on or in approved model flying sites.
So I take that to be as our model club here.

Re: Drone/Model registration.
Spoke to a club member yesterday.
There are 2 main insurance model associations in Aus. being MAAA and AMAS.
The latter to which we have been associated for quite some time has elected to follow a simple approach and covered in the attached pdf whereas MAAA are going a different, more complex route.
One can only guess what the outcome of that will be and 2 systems are needed like a hole in the head.

Re: Drone/Model registration.
Hobbyists in Aus have had a win!
After ~5 years, the proposed model aircraft registration scheme is being repealed.
Its introduction for recreational flyers was delayed for several years, and was set to commence on 1 July 2023 but now it is dead - good riddance.
From the explanatory statement:
"Consultation - The Regulations were not subject to public consultation and such consultation was not considered necessary. The amendments to repeal the model aircraft registration and operator accreditation scheme are not expected to be controversial as they remove burden that was not well supported when originally consulted."
Understatement or what?

Still on hold was the notice we were given..........
CASA: Recreational model aircraft/drone rego update [SEC=OFFICIAL]
Australian Miniature Aerosports Society Inc.

Members,
The AMAS inc have been advised, via the AMAS Inc President Mr Robert Edwards, by CASA today the following:
OFFICIAL
Dear Robert,
As discussed, just now the Government has decided to pause the planned introduction of a registration and accreditation scheme for recreational drones (model aircraft) more than 250g which was due to commence on 1 July 2023. The registration of all commercial drones (remotely pilot aircraft) remains unchanged.

Re: Drone/Model registration.
CASA has delayed the introduction a couple of times before - originally it was to be introduced in 20/21?
When this was done, they only changed the introduction date in the legislation. This time, they are removing reference to 'model aircraft' from the legislation which is a bit more enduring.
At least kids will get a few more years without being effectively banned.
But yeah - we can't trust them to not reintroduce it in the years ahead.
