I have been away from home for a few weeks and to help kill time I've been reading a fantastic book by Harry Sampey. For those of you with an interest in the history of R/C, Harry Sampey and the Sampey 404 are legendary names, the 404 was one of the first reliable analogue proportional sets on the market. Meynard Hill used a Sampey 404 R/C set to set numerous world records for R/C aircraft and I'm certain he chose a 404 for a reason, its performance and reliability, more info on the R/C HAll of Fame:

But Harry Sampey did so much more than being an R/C pioneer, you have to read the book to fully appreciate his inventions and the technical first he achieved, not bad considering he was self-taught. Available from most good bookstores, I got mine from eBay as I have a saved search for a 404 (I would love one for my collection) and the book appeared in the search. It's also available from Amazon:

A great book to read
