434 Mhz RDT

Post by Stew »

Hi all.

Just stumbled across this today. What is the benefit of 433Mhz against 2.4ghz?
Seems a handy little device but does anyone know much about it?

The only advantage I know of 433MHz vs 2.4GHz is that the lower the frequency, the greater the range for the same power output and better it penetrates buildings, walls, trees etc. It's obviously a lower power device, maybe easier to achieve the low power at 433MHz?

The claimed up to 2750 metre range might be a wet dream.

For maximum range, Melih (Mr. BMK) recommends replacing the receiver's coil aerial with a 16" (I think - need to check his Facebook page) length of very thin piano wire or guitar string. And it's worth remembering that the RDT board carries a default timer as well. I have a few of each type, both RDT and plain vanilla; they all work well and are fine for most non-competition FF models. If you want to save a gram or so, look elsewhere and spend three or four times as much!

Okay, BMK products are not the smallest or lightest but they're pretty damn good for the price! And Melih's service and back-up is excellent too.
