A Guessing Game?

Post by Dodgy Geezer »

I obtained an old Micron receiver off eBay recently from a workshop clearance, and the seller enclosed this item with it. After scraping off the sticky covering, I suspect that it might be a receiver from one of the simple Chinese boats/planes, on 35MHz, driving two motors for directional control. Perhaps 6v?

Unless someone has any other ideas?

It doesn't look like a receiver. If it was 27/35/40 MHz it would have some kind of tuning coils, ceramic filters and a crystal on it. Looking at the switch and all the diodes, could it be a BEC/Speed controller? Possibly for DC motors?

It confused/still confuses me. I would expect a crystal and IF cans if it were a receiver, but it may not be superhet...My thoughts were:

1 - there is a marked VCC and Ground, so it expects power (6v?)
2 - there is an M1+ and -, and an M2+ and -, so I expect these go to a two motor drives - cheap R/C toys often have this. I suppose they could be motor in/motor out for an ESC, but where is the signal input?
3 - what looks like a short white aerial lead is next to a marked table - red/27M white/35M yellow/40M black/49M. That looks like a device intended for different markets. There seems to be no other data input.
4 - the reverse has two chips near the motor outputs - marked 3082 69MZ (the 8 pin DIPs) These may be transcievers?
5 - the big chip is hard to read - it looks like RX-2C-G 60823225 Which sounds like a receiver...

The aerial seems to go straight to the adjustable coil, and then to a transistor. I wouldn"t know what signal to give it to see if I can get an output...

Its difficult to see from the photos - not enough detail - I can't make out the adjustable coil on the image! If there is one, it could be a super-regen receiver - like the old single channel sets - but that would imply AM, not FM. That would be allowable on 27 MHz and perhaps 49 MHz, but not on 35 or 40 MHz anywhere that I'm aware of. In any event, bearing in mind the allowable power output on 49 MHz, it would be VERY short range!

Sounds like something out of a very cheap toy!
