Mode Zero

Phil asked me for a scan of the RCM&E Digital System (the original from 1968, not the later RCM&E FM) and having scanned it, I thought others might be interested too. RCM&E combined the monthly articles into a single booklet, presumably to make it easier rather than needing 7 back copies from 1968 and 1969. The booklet is priced 60p, so it must have been published after decimalisation (Feb 1971 I think). I scanned this booklet rather than having to get seven RCM&E out of the loft.

When I had a quick look through to make sure everything was in order, I noticed the last section was titled "Servo Tester", I did not realise that servo testers were available in 1969. It used an early IC the MC717P which was an RTL (resistor transistor logic) quad dual-in NOR gates. RTL logic gates pre-date the later TTL and CMOS logic series, but the circuit would work just as well with a modern 7402 or 4001 IC.

I did spot a few errors as was common in magazine constructional articles of the time, I wonder if there was a later errata sheet?

There was no errata sheet attached, but there could have been one and it got lost from the booklet. But you would have thought if there were any errors they would have been included with the booklet, the construction articles started Dec 1968 and the booklet was printed after Feb 1971, so they had over two years to include a printed errata sheet...

After I had scanned the RCM&E Digital System booklet labelled RC/1000 I thought I'd scan the RCM&E FM booklet, confusingly also labelled RC/1000. Does anybody have any idea why RCM&E gave them both the same part number? I'll post the other booklet when I've had a chance to combine the individual scans, it is a time-consuming process to photoshop out any scratches, stains and hand written notes.

I went through a phase when I seemed to be making the later 35 mHz rx's on a weekly basis for club members. When I started to be able to place a large amount of the components without referring to the instructions, I decided enough was enough.

Terrys 35mhz prototype definitely has the Micron look.

Ooooo....yes please!. I always thought the RCM&E radio was one of the best looking R/C sets. I would love to read through the manual.
