What’s this chaps ? Vaguely Elmira like , came with a Skyleader outfit. Clearly been used for sloping as no tow hook for bungee. Has a dramatic dihedral and a all moving wobbulator.
I have realised it’s nicely built and I’m up for recovering. Amazingly the age old nicad holds Antique charge STILL!! but I can’t allow myself to trust it.
Would love to fly it soon - Probably covered with yellow transparent on the see through sections of the wing and tail all the rest black including all the leading halves of the Wing surfaces

Looks like a St Leonards Models 'Super Nova. What's the wingspan? There were two wingspans, bigger one was 124" and the smaller one 100" IIRC.

Ah yes so it does but with a straight wing rather than polyhedral.
And that’s spring a memory -I had a St Leonard’s model glider that due to my young inability to do such things never made it off the board . But I think that may have been called topaz ?? Maybe not but this actual design
Destiny delivers !
Thank you

My 124" 'Super Nova' was a single dihedral wing. I think it was an option to go polyhedral.

Sorry, I don't recognise the model in the photos but it definitely is not a Super Nova.
I have the Super Nova plan to hand and in fact it has very little in common with this glider.

Hello Pat
Yes I’m not convinced either now the tail shape is different but the wing join to the fuselage seems to be the same. Maybe st St Leonard’s but another design. I’ve been scouring the outerzone plans and so far no luck
Never mind it’ll make a nice vintage glider just the same

The wing, wing/fuselage join look to be an exact copy of the Monterey (Radio Modeller, Dec 1971and it's on Outerzone) but the tail feathers are different.......
When you come to re-cover it, a clue might be that unusually, the Monterey has no spars in the wing, the strength being in the "D-box" formed by the LE sheeting and vertical webbing........ It seems to work, mine is over 30 years old and the wings haven't folded yet!

It certainly has "dramatic" dihedral, Span is 99"....... perhaps it's a home brew based on the Monterey? Hi Paul I thought I recognised the centre section sheeting although not the tail feather construction from your model. Have you refurbed your Monterey? Last time I saw it there was some interesting patination present... looks good now though!
How are you? have you been flying over the beach huts lately?
Cheers

Hi Glyn,
I can't remember when I built it but must be something like 40 years old so a certain amount of "patination" was to be expected I think! Yes, I tarted it up for Ivinghoe last year! and no I haven't bothered with Felixstowe again, it really isn't worth it I've nearly finished a leccy glider though......
